Giugliani is a 15 year old white cat that lives two houses away from us. We think that her real name is Marshmallow. We only learned her real name, age, and residency several months ago (her owner is a Packers fan so he and A were exchanging pleasantries early this year), so when she first showed up during a dinner last winter, A named her after a cast member from a very bad and short-lived Hulu reality show of which we saw only part of a single episode. At first we thought that Giugliani might be homeless since she was not wearing a collar and her fur was overgrown and very dirty. Imagine our surprise when a month later, she showed up in the most weird cat haircut we ever saw.
During the subsequent months her fur grew back so much that she developed mattes. About four months ago she received a new haircut (at $250 since she has to be knocked out, according to her owner).
Elmer is a domesticated duck owned by the next-door neighbor. She came to like our pool and started to fly over the fence almost every morning to swim. After several months, Elmer stopped coming and we thought something had happened. Indeed, according to her owner, Elmer started to lay eggs and wouldn't budge from her nest. This is also when we learned that Elmer is really an "Elmira" but we didn't change her name. Oh, and the neighbors found it so funny that we named their duck that the name has stuck.

Speaking of our next door neighbor, not only does she has two hens in addition to Elmer and two dogs, she also recently purchased kids (of the four-legged variety). Just imagine how surprised we were to hear bleating one morning.
Yes, we live in a $1.5 million house and there is a petting zoo next store. Gotta love Hawaii's eccentricities.
