USCGC Bertholf

While reading about Oahu events for the 4th of July celebration, we saw that USCGC Bertholf had docked at the Coast Guard base and was open for public tours.  Never having been on a Coast Guard cutter we stopped by to check out the ship.

The Bertholf was returning home from South America where she was supporting the war on drugs and was stopping in Hawaii for several days before continuing to her homeport in Alameda, CA.  The newest Coast Guard cutter is named after Commodore Ellsworth Bertholf who became the Coast Guard first Commandant when the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service was merged with the U.S. Life-Saving Service.

During the tour we saw the flight deck with a non-working rail system to roll-out helicopters, a bofors gun, the bridge, galley, and living quarters.
