Continuing our search for waterfalls we found the hike to Waihe'e Falls. Located in the Kahalu'u community on the Windward side this was an easy 1.5 mile hike through a dirt road and rainforest leading to Waihe'e Falls. Along our way we spotted some interesting things.
This is a popular swimming hole but the water level was too low even for A.

Then we saw this menacing looking structure with locked gates and water flowing from under the door. It turns out this is one of only a few dike tunnels on the island. Dike tunnels are horizontal wells cut into the water table of a mountain. According to the Board of Water Supply, this is 1500-foot dike tunnel provides water to Windward O'ahu, from Kahalu'u to Kailua. Too bad public tours are no longer available.

We finally made it to the 30 foot waterfall. There was no pool to swim, but A stood underneath for a refreshing shower.
Oh, we almost forgot to mention that this waterfall was used in a scene from Lost. A posed for these pictures before discovering almost identical shots from the TV series.
On the way back we spotted some heavy machinery in need of a new home (or recycling). Perhaps, it was used during Lost filming...
