If you were wondering about our recent lack of updates, we were on the road during the entire month of September. Combined, but separately, we flew 36,000 miles (the earth's circumference is under 25K miles), drove 1700 miles while renting 6 different rentals cars (4 were Ford Focuses), visited 6 states, and threw in a last-minute trip to Germany. The trip was both for business and for pleasure, which included a wedding (mazel tov, E & J!), and visiting family and friends on the mainland.
While our trip to Germany was mostly for business, we still managed to enjoy walking around the
Mainz Old Town, attending Yom Kippur services in Frankfurt, and a day-trip to
Bingen:

The Mouse Tower is a watchtower built in the 14th century on an island in the Rhine and was used to strengthen military protection of the Bingen Loch shipping channel.

Also protecting Bingen Loch is Klopp Castle, built sometime after 1240. The construction is dominated by the two story palace and the castle keep. Together with Ehrenfels Castle and the Mouse Tower, the castle was used to control the Rhine trade.

We enjoyed beautiful weather on the east coast but Germany was cold and rainy. We even had to wear shoes and sweaters! Our toes were not happy being so confined. But we were fully on board with the German habit of eating ice creams cones any time of day in any weather.
When we were reunited in Hawaii we immediately set upon looking for a new apartment, which is what has also set back our blog writing. We'd like to think we'll be back on track eventually.
